What does Pop Culture Mean?

When I think of pop culture, the first thing I think about is music. Now, I don't know if that is because of the word "pop" and linking that to the genre of pop, or what, but in whole, I think of music. All together, I think of pop culture as modern media. This can be in the form of music, or books, or movies/television; everything modern that relates to the media is how I look at pop culture
I think understand pop culture is important in any career because of how relevant it is. The media uses technology for everything these days, with the internet booming and the use of search engines and all. This will effect anyone no matter what job path they choose. I think that pop culture has a positive impact on the business world and can show you what helpful things you can do and also the things you shouldn't.
My pop culture artifact is the emblem of MTV. I think MTV is what I really think about when it comes to pop culture. It is a mix of music and TV and media all combined into one.

  1. Interesting explanation of Pop Culture, I never thought about it that way! Now that you bring it up, it does kind of remind me of the type of music, more specifically it takes me back to NYSNC and Backstreet Boys days, which also relate to your artifact MTV. I wish MTV played as many music videos that they used to, but it's totally a great representation of pop culture, nice job!

  2. MTV...I want my MTV...I remember when MTV first came out!!! I remember visiting a friend's house and watching Michael Jackson's Thriller. I will always remember how it made me feel (I remember thinking WOW!) It is I think the biggest icon representing popular culture of the eighties. I miss the videos, way back when videos were played non stop.

  3. Music is a big part of popular culture and is forever changing. I use to love watching MTV when it first came out and could not wait for new videos to come out to see how they choreographed. Music can have a positive influence in our lives and in part lets the musicians demonstrate their thoughts and feelings through a song.

  4. I have to agree that music is a huge part of pop culture. However, don't forget about all the other things that are pop culture like movies, tv, etc. I liked your artifact of MTV. This is because when I was growing up that was the happening thing and what everyone watched.

  5. MTV is a network that is pop culture. Perfect artifact to choose. MTV is constantly changing with times and what's current, as well as the various types of music they would introduce the viewers to. I can remember watching videos as a kid and want to become a VJ!

  6. MTV was a great choice seeing that music and music television has influenced generations for years and defined peoples lives. Music made people feel understood, not alone, and connected to the world at the same time. Now days they have reality shows that people try to relate to as well so great idea concept for your blog.
